What it involves
Medical microneedling creates small controlled skin injuries. Some devices are authorized for specific scar or wrinkle indications. Authorization is device- and use-specific, not an approval for every advertised combination.
Risks and limitations
Risks include bleeding, infection, redness and pigment changes. FDA has not cleared microneedling devices for use with another product such as cosmetics, drugs or platelet-rich plasma; the safety of combinations needs separate consideration.
Recovery and follow-up
Redness and irritation can follow treatment. Ask about aftercare, hygiene, sun exposure and repeat sessions. Do not use this guide as instructions for home needling.
