What it involves

Blepharoplasty can remove or reposition eyelid skin and fat. Upper and lower eyelids require different assessments. A low brow or a drooping eyelid muscle can need a different approach; a photograph cannot distinguish these reliably.

Risks and limitations

Risks include dry eyes, difficulty closing the eyes, lower-lid malposition, scarring and changes in vision. Rare sight-threatening complications are possible. Discuss existing eye disease and previous eye procedures with your clinician.

Recovery and follow-up

Bruising and swelling are expected early on. Ask about eye care, driving, contact lenses and follow-up. Sudden loss of vision or severe eye pain after surgery requires urgent medical assessment.

Questions for your consultation

Do I need an eyelid or brow assessment? How will my eye surface and eyelid support be protected?
